Out of the Gate and Running!

The new year has already presented me with new perspectives and opportunities.  Michael and I attended the Jazz Educator's Network Conference where John Mills Times Ten performed and we had the chance to experience what that organization is about and the lofty goals for music education they have achieved and more they have set.  I got to meet David Sears of the GRAMMY Foundation, who I'll be working with at the TMEA (Texas Music Educators Assn.) convention next month.  What a great guy!  I was inspired by student performances as well has an up close performance by Poncho Sanchez!  What a treat and an inspiration!

Wearing another hat, I just finished 5 days with the Austin Songwriters Group.  I continue to work on my writing skills and their Symposium, which I highly recommend, gave me lots of tools for that.  It did something else that I was totally not expecting.  It showed by a community full or truly kind and generous people.  In this world of so much negativity and nerve taxing stimulation, being in a place with 250 or so humans who genuinely want to share their works and help others with theirs.  It restored my hope for all things, including my own works.  Not to mention, some incredible songs by some really talented writers.

So, with all this under my belt, I move forward with advocacy of music education,  songwriting and of course, the 40th anniversary of Fable Records.  Stay tuned, my friends.  I'll be bringing you some inspiring and fun things in all three arenas!
