Go With the Flow

So, it's been over two years since I've written.  It's been a blur of traumatizing headlines, massive changes in how we work in this industry, personal changes and an over arching question of place in all the chaos.  I know many of you have felt the same.

Recently, I managed to muster the clarity to put myself at the mercy of the Universe, state my intentions and step back to wait for the answer.   While I wait . . .

My son, today, takes another step out as a solo artist and comes further into his own.  I'm so proud of Robin and his work and I really dig getting to perform it with him.  Yesterday, my husband, Michael, took his place in the Austin Jazz Hall of Fame along side his life long friend and Fable artist, John Mills.  In both instances we were surrounded by friends, by community. It was humbling, comforting and grounding.   And . . . we sold more product off the website to folks in Austin, New York, California, New Jersey and France - go figure.  Not bad for a label that's got no one on tour at the moment.  Just good music and word of mouth.  E-commerce at its most modest, yet most certain.  Sweet!

So all these things have moved me to focus on the small but powerfully beautiful good stuff - stuff like a new friendship and kinship with a fellow inde label in the UK who will be re-releasing in the coming moneths our Fable Trilogy in all its original glory and then some.  Check them out, Jazzman Records.  Their work is top notch and their passion for the music is Serious.  We're honored to be a part of their catalogue. Stuff like new neighbors moving into our neighborhood and spurring a new friendship and an honest-to-God vinyl listening session. Wow!  That was spiritual fun and totally unexpected!  I'm moved to focus on the face-to-face organic relationships we've been so fortunate to experience.  Bonds that are stronger, more secure, more steadfast than any technological innovation or social trend out there.

I've said it before, small is where It's at.  Local Rocks.  Whispers and handshakes, eventually, unite the globe.

In the coming weeks, I will learn what the Universe has next in store for me.  It's going to be manageable.  It's going to be beautiful.  It's not going to be trendy or groundbreaking but my hope is that it opens the path to being here, with you, in the moment, loving this world, loving this music.  See you at the gig!
