Feeding My Soul, On The Go

This year has been a whirlwind thus far.  Jazz Educator's Network Conference in San Diego, the Austin Songwriter's Symposium in Austin, The GRAMMY's® in L.A., the Texas Music Educator's Association Convention in San Antonio and now SXSW just around the corner.

I look out my window to the trees and grounds of my beloved Fablewood and long to spend days disconnected from the world with my fingers and feet in the soil, planting things and feeling the wind.  "Not quite yet", the Universe whispers.  "There's much to do."

Beto and the Fairlanes has their show season opener on March 1 - a way of life and a Rite of Spring for many of us long-time Austinites and I can't pass up the chance to play with them.  My band, Javier Chaparro and Salúd will play our monthly gig at Z'Tejas this Sunday, Feb.22 and gear up for a more concerts to come including a showcase during SXSW at Blue Rock Artist Studios and a return engagement at the Kerrville Folk Festival in May.

Matt Wilson is putting out a new CD soon and performing more shows, Robin Mordecai is in the midst of producing his first solo project with Fable . . . so much good stuff!

While I work to stay on top of "the business" though, my musician soul is begging to slip away to the music room upstairs and play my drums.  This call, I will heed.  My soul has gone too long without playing practicing and I've got music to perform for you tomorrow!

So I go to frolic in the rhythm and the music!  How do you feed your soul when life keeps you running?
